{wear} march

Gotta squeeze in a fashion post before the end of the month. Here are some things I wore to work and to play:

// sweater: Loft / top: Forever 21 / scarf: AE / Shoes: AE
// denim shirt: PacSun / top: Forever 21 / leggings: Wet Seal / shoes: AE

// sweater: Banana Republic / top: PacSun / scarf: Macy's / jeans: thrifted

// same outfit above except pants / pants: Loft

So there you go -- a couple of outfits I wore in March. There is usually at least one outfit I’m iffy about, but I actually like all of these looks this month. A couple feminine looks, some playful and a lots of color. While comparing them all for this post - it got me thinking that I’m not certain I could define my personal style. Romantic? Classic? Sporty? I think I’m all over the place!

finding courage

Some days, things just seem awful scary and overwhelming. The closer you get to things that really matter, the easier it is to invent fears that can stop you.

Yesterday, I woke up to face things (that weren't threatening) which made me inexplicably nervous. Courage is not about not being afraid, but rather about facing up to your fears and forging ahead.

The thing is, even though we are afraid that something won't turn out the way we want, or that it might go incredibly wrong, or that we might be hurt by it … the truth is that we can make it through. We have before.

We are strong. We are resilient. We are smart enough to figure out what to do next. Failure does not have to stop us... as long as we are brave enough to keep trying, to risk ourselves, to do what really matters no matter what the outcome might be.

Bravery is how we overcome those odds. And every time we are brave, every time we conquer that fear, we get a little step closer to being the person we want to be. And every time we take that difficult step, we make the next brave step that much easier. I would much rather be in the habit of facing my fears straight on than hiding from them. Turning off the light. Pulling the blanket up over my head.

Being brave gets you a lot farther in life.

When's the last time you were faced with an opportunity to be brave and do something you knew was the best thing to do? How did you overcome your fears and find your courage?

{giveaway} group giveaway no. 3

:: group giveaway ::

I present to you again, a sweet offering from some amazing bloggers and shop owners. As I mentioned in last week’s giveaway, I’ve discovered my purpose for this blog – to be helpful. Useful in a manner that allows other women to shine.

And you can, too! Visit each of my beautiful, amazing friends featured here in this post and give them just an ounce of your love and support. Visit their blogs and their shops, but don’t just pass by…leave your mark…your words. Lift up their spirit – tell them at least one thing they’re doing right.

Besides, what do you have to lose by giving your heartfelt support to others? “A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.”-author unknown

::One lucky winner will receive the following...

  // shop

This is not to say I’m flooded with a blog following so heavy that others become successful being featured here. I’m just doing what I can with my mere corner in the blogging community – to give all that I’ve got to give, with the hope that some inkling of my service will bring blessing(s) to someone I’ve encountered along the way.

No matter how much insight or sweat I give, the effects of my giving are not my call to make. Quite honestly, I have nothing to do with someone receiving my love – it’s the choice of the loved. If someone runs with my idea, or is moved, or takes my suggestion and turns it all around — that’s because of their readiness and wisdom, not mine.

When you are being of service to other people, you need to leave a lot of room for mystery. Give, unrestrained and assume nothing.

just one more

Do you talk of having more babies? We do. Well, not plural babies…just one more baby. We wonder how it will affect us financially.

As a society, we have embedded this idea in our heads that children need costly “things” to grow up happy. And while we carry hopes of traveling with them, dining out with them, experiencing adventures with them, we could definitely lower our standards of what life should entail for them. You just naturally ‘want’ for your child(ren).

The most significant cost we consider is college. So, therefore, we ponder a lot about affording 3 college students, much less 4, along with fulfilling all those other ‘dreams.’

We talk about the attention we must give our children, and the daily efforts required by us. How much of our time we want to give and how that already feels challenging at times. We talk about how even though it doesn’t feel like it - the first year really is the easiest - that the more they develop and mature - the more complex the road of parenthood becomes.

But every now and then, my eyes will get teary and the part of my heart that has no interest in practicality, caring less about daily balance or dreams of travel, turns to Pete and says “Let’s try for another baby. Let’s go for it! JUST ONE MORE TIME!”

Just one more time…one more season of sleepless nights and tiny toes and soft spots and onesies and the first bite of squash and the first crawl. Once more, that ache in my lower back from swaying a little person for an hour while battling teething, giggling with Pete because the alternative is us crying, alongside them.

Even if I had 10 children, I am pretty sure the longing for another baby would still exist. Maybe it’s just a natural reaction as we realize we are coming to the end of our “baby years”.  I am optimistic about where ever we go from here – whether that be another child or the open road, or both.

I put the carrier and bouncer in the attic. I’m letting it go and enjoying the right now, as a family of five. Because sometimes, and I remind myself daily, we don’t have to have all the answers about our future.

Have you created an opening in your life for another child, or have you closed and locked that door forever?

{affiliate post} lisa leonard designs

Introducing to you today, Lisa Leonard Designs. I've truly enjoyed getting to know Lisa through her blog -- she's a remarkably creative soul, a wife, and mother to 2 boys. Her blog is filled with wonderful things like diy vintage framed chalkboards and Easter egg nests to cozy candles and room re-dos. Her tutorials are very clear and concise -- makes it easy for even me to follow along. Plus, I have some serious hair envy!

Dear Friend,

Thank you for being part of the Lisa Leonard community. I have met so many incredible and inspiring women—and sharing our journeys together is a beautiful thing!

I wanted to take a minute to give you a glimpse into why I do what I do, because for me, it’s more than just jewelry... it’s a piece of my heart.

I have been making jewelry since high school but I decided to get serious after my first son, David, was born with a severe disability. I wanted to start a small business that would enable me to quit my job and stay home with my boys.

At the time, I had never taken any formal classes or received special training in jewelry making. I just went for it! I am kind of the "jump in and learn as you go" type. Creating jewelry not only allowed me to work from home, but has connected me with so many amazing women along the way.

My desire is to create simple, lovely pieces that can be worn with jeans or your little black dress. I want each piece to be meaningful. Our custom jewelry is hand-stamped with your kids' names or a special phrase or verse. I love to touch my necklace throughout the day and reflect on my husband and my sweet boys.

Each piece we create is a work of art—hand molded, hammered, polished, drilled and assembled with care. I am inspired by other artists—painters, scrapbookers, clothing designers and poets. I also love to soak up nature-the sky, the sea and the green hills.

Follow me on my journey by reading my blog, or pick up a piece of jewelry for yourself or a loved one in my store (don’t forget to save 15% with your welcome15% coupon).

With love,
