LOVE OUR LOVE

I want to write this in a very honest way. Aside from my beloved, you’re the only person I can ever be entirely myself with.

I have mixed feelings about arguments. On the one hand, it is a way to release energy and speak about issues without boundary. A way to reset love. After all, it is so easy to get used to everyday love and contentedness that it feels routine.

But on the other hand, it is an ugly thing. Doesn’t every child want parents who never fight? Doesn’t everyone want perfect love?

I probably have a close-to perfect love with my husband. People often tell us we are ideal for one another, and there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s more than I need deserve. Still, after 4 years, there's a remarkable passion for one another. A certainty. A place of belonging. Too, I love how rarely we argue. And when we do, it’s gentle and delicate on his end. His love is unfailingly patient, kind, and without judgement. He’s teaching me so much about true love that I never knew before.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

When we get so busy that all the little things have gotten bottled up and compressed tight, my anxiety creeps back into my nights, as it does, wrapping itself around my thoughts with its wiry black fingers. I can’t sleep with the fear of projects unfinished, work emails unanswered, kids’ social events unaddressed, mistakes I’ve made. He feels me tossing and turning in the middle of the night and will often murmur in sleep “what’s wrong?” I say nothing. Rather, it all spills out of my mouth in an ugly mess of slander and belittling the next morning, and I am so exhausted that I do what I do. I shut down and trap myself in my head. The hopeless, messy kind, spiked too with hot anger.

Then suddenly a kind voice in my head reminds me that I am the one in control of how I feel. That’s right, I am. I sit up from our bed, and wipe my wet face on my wrists. I emerge from our bedroom and he always pulls me close. As he always does. He holds my face in his hands tenderly, giving me his full gaze, and apologizes for things beyond his control. I feel the highness of love, backdropped against the recent anger and I’m glad for moments like these where I can feel fully. We recognize each other again.

Though I am unsettled at times, he walks me through (with his gentle words) the ways in which his will help my problems disappear. He wraps his long arms around me so I feel as safe as a child held by a loving parent and so I can escape from complex adult worries.

Life is good. It always is. But it helps to share it with the right people. I’m learning to appreciate it more every day.

This is the way it always is with us, no matter how big or small the disagreement. We can never stay mad at one another for long and never overnight. We say sorry, we talk it through with new understanding and we melt into one another again.

I love our love.

MANY VOICES AND THIS ONE'S MINE

My blog is my story, or more so a chronicle of our adventures. I can’t think of any better way to affect people than by being personal and real. But lately my blog doesn’t feel personal or real enough to me. It should have all the color and chaos of a real diary, but it feels like I’m following a formula. With blogging do's and don'ts and giveaways and tutorials and link-ups and similar content that lives on all the other blogs out there, I feel I'm falling in line, instead of at the end of the limb where I feel I should be.

I try not to be guarded with my words, but I am scared somewhat to be blatantly open and honest. I talk mostly of things I find beautiful, but sometimes I wish to share the dark and dingy parts of life. I won't always stick to topics I think my followers will enjoy. In other words, I’m writing for myself and if I didn't, that is where the warmth of AMHE would trickle out.

So here’s my heart. I'm going to promote an occasional giveaway, and I'm going to continue to support my favorite link-up, but I am going to write this blog from the deepest parts of my heart and I hope you find refuge here. The internet is a big place, with many voices and this one's mine.

Thank you for spending time in my world.

Oh, and on a lighter note, here's a photo that I'd like for you to look for on HGTV. They've asked to use this photo in their #LOVEHOME campaign, and I couldn't be more excited to potentially see my little sweeties flash before my eyes...during and between House Hunters International and Hawaii Life episodes.

So for those of you wondering... Ady, How do you giveaway 6,000 followers???
Well I'll tell you...
it's a little secret businesses use to increase their online presence, gain credibility, and look more established.  They pay someone to help them get their business out there.

Say you're current twitter followers are at 25... I'll increase that to 6,025 plus a little extra! ;)
When you win all I need is your twitter handle.  No password necessary.
I will then find relevant followers to follow you.
Disclaimer: I am not promising they will continue to follow you for years to come... that's your job.  But I will get them there.

**** I help businesses gain followers on Facebook, instagram, twitter, retweets, youtube, vimeo, and pinterest so if you don't win but you're interested in my services please email me.

An impressive Twitter followers count can do wonders to your online presence, whether you want to showcase your Twitter follower count on your website, on your blog or on the Twitter profile page itself. It shows your influence. It shows how many people are eager to hear from you and follow your updates. A greater number of Twitter followers achieves multiple things for you:
  • It acts as an endorsement and more prospective followers feel encouraged to follow you.
  • The more followers you have the greater number of prospective customers and clients you have.
  • More followers means you can promote your products and services in front of a greater number of people.
  • You are considered to be more influential by your peers.
  • If you are a social media marketing company your prospective clients will have more confidence in your abilities.

  • Now this is going to be an aggressive contest!  I mean how could I say no to all those beautiful ladies above?  I couldn't.  So now's your chance to rack up all the entries humanly possible!
Remember the more entries the have the more your odds of winning increase!
    READY. SET. GO!

{meet my guest} LIX HEWETT PHOTOGRAPHY

My name is Lix, I'm twenty-three years old and I live in a small town in Spain - where I was born and raised. I'm a bit of a "girl exhibits remarkable intelligence at early age and fails to live up to expectations" story - it was all fine (and quite focused on mathematics, which I still love) and then my anxiety became full-blown tachycardia, and everything went downhill from there. I did finish high school with a B+, went off to college, moved into a dorm, dropped out largely due to social anxiety. Went to college again, this time in my hometown, dropped out because my parents were both unemployed and I couldn't pay for it.

In a big way, Lix Hewett Photography was born out of a desire to get my life back on track and gain some sort of financial stability doing something I loved. If you look at the job postings here in Spain right now, it's all door-to-door marketing - and if living in a dorm got the best of my social anxiety, the idea of convincing strangers to hire me to convince other strangers to buy things I don't believe in - you can imagine.

But photography - and graphic design and fashion and art, in an overarching way - I do believe in.

I started doing photography when I was a teenager. I got a cheap camera because I wanted to share photos of my life with my online friends, and it just clicked for me. I'm a very visual person, and the joy of holding a camera in my hands and being able to capture a scene, an image exactly the way I see it - to draw its beauty through a lens - it's exhilarating. I got a better camera when I was away at college (the first time!), before things got truly bad financially for my family, and it's been at my side ever since. I'm a compulsive shooter - I shoot first and think later. In that sense, and given my budget, digital has always made more sense to me. It doesn't hurt that the Internet gave me a way to express myself and find likeminded people when I was a teen that I couldn't seem to find in my offline life.

Many of the photographs you see in my shop were taken in 2007 and 2008, in England, on two three-week trips I took there on scholarships the ministry offered to encourage students to learn English. I've actually never felt as at home in Spain as I did when I was in the UK - which is one of the reasons I want to move there, soon. That, and there are actual job ads asking for my skills - I do product photography as well as fine art - there! Kind of a shock after browsing local listings. ;)

Aside from photography, I'm passionate about several other arts - I have some graphic design experience, though my slow, old laptop makes it hard to work on that; I'm a poet and a writer; I'm an avid reader, especially of young adult fiction; I like to play guitar and sing, though I'm not very good at it. I love fashion and have actually been designing clothes, without making them happen, my whole life. I love TV and I love engaging with it critically while still enjoying it on an emotional level, and in fact many of the designs I've got planned for my clothing line are inspired by (and named after) TV characters.

I'm going to share a bit of an oddball quote with you - I've got part of it engraved on my iPod, and it's from a poem I wrote when I was sixteen. It goes,

they told me the rain would come,
    and I believed them.

I always believe things that are wrong
    or that don't make sense.
there's a sort of excitement in impossibility
    as understood by hope—
    it revels in anticipation.

    (...)

they say I'm mad as a hatter, and I
tell them I'm as sane as alice—
and they say I'm lost in fantasy,
    like it's a bad thing.

they are lost in this world
    and its limits, my mom says;
she begs me to aim for the seasons
    like she once forgot.

so I go outside and wait on the old swing of
    our backyard
till the green covers the wood
and the garden gnomes are fed to look after
    the sky while I sleep,
in case a storm catches an airplane
    or enfolds a train.

and they tell me the rain is coming, and I believe them,
because it is the time of march moss.

    A LIGHT IN THE DARK

Daily, I feel provoked to take a few steps forward in hopes that tomorrow's yesterday will be better than today's. I yearn for change, yet I want everything else to change around me. I want people to change. I want situations to change. I find myself not wanting to change, but expecting changed circumstances. It just goes to show what an innate self-centered nature lies deep within us whether we are conscious of it or not.

Our thoughts are powerful. And I’m beginning to believe more and more that our thoughts can influence how we act and/or react to situations. Additionally, our thoughts can directly and indirectly influence the situation itself.

An energy of sorts that we emit into the world. Negative thoughts emit negative energy. And vice versa.

(And here goes my rant again on living with gratitude.)

We have the ability to change our negative circumstances into strength, power, peace, health and abundance just by thinking it. How awesome is that?!

It all begins with gratitude. Opting to see the light even in the darkest of situations.
