BRING THE RAIN

I'm pretty sure God rolls his eyes at any mention of ‘my plans.’

Joyce Meyer, one of my favorite teachers, once said that “we always pray for God to change our circumstances when God actually uses our circumstances to change us.” I must say that yes, I've been changed.

Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free.
Bring me anything that brings You glory.
And I know there'll be days
When this life brings me pain,
But if that's what it takes to praise You
Jesus, bring the rain.
~Mercy Me

I don't know many people who are at that place in their journey -- filled with such spiritual maturity. As I see my faith stretched daily, I yearn for the day when Pete and I come to a place where we can fervently say, "God, I want what you want. If what I want isn't what you want, then change my mind."

Have you reached that point in your faith?

  1. Oh boy, this is definitely something I needed to hear today. My husband has been trying for a couple years now to be hired as a law enforcement officer. It's a long LONG process filled with tests, interviews, background checks, and more tests. Every time we get closer and closer, but just yesterday we received yet another rejection letter. I had a huge meltdown in my bathroom, crying and asking "Why are my prayers being ignored? I'm doing everything you ask me to." But you're right.. I need to listen to what he wants for us, not what we want for ourselves. Thank you for sharing this.

  3. Thank you so much for posting this today! I just said a selfish prayer myself last night, and this is exactly what I needed to remind me that this life is not my own.

  4. This is such a simple yet powerful concept. First off, I love Joyce. I like to pretend she is my friend/family. I have many of her books and listen to her show often. I have just come to a place where my prayers aren't for things but for God's will to be done. It is kinda scary giving up what I think is control over my life and handing it over. Thanks for sharing!

  5. My faith and love in Christ remains sometimes depending on what I'm going thru. God will definitely test you in various ways.
