what you are made of

For most of my adult years, it’s been all about survival.  Surviving a brutal first marriage. Surviving long workdays as single mother. Surviving skin cancer.  Surviving losses of lives loved. Surviving  miscarriages.  But just “surviving” is no way to live.  At times I was hanging by a thread.

But about 5 years ago, a complete stranger, but someone of an angel, shared with me her new outlook on life and how it changed her worth entirely. I SLOWLY began applying everything I learned from this brief encounter, and my life could not have taken a more complete turn. I am still so amazed that I had the power within me to change like that & to actually become a happier person. I figured out then that there is NOTHING better in this life than knowing what you are made of.  Literally nothing.

I knew early on that what I possess needs to be shared. Writing this blog has been one of the most joyful things I’ve ever done. I love it. I can’t get enough of it. I wish I didn’t have to sleep so that I could respond to more emails and write more posts!

I receive many kind emails and comments…thankfully.  One reader going through a very difficult time once wrote: “A few days ago, my husband said, ‘What changed in you?’  So I showed him your blog and said, ‘That’s what’s changed. I’ve found someone who is encouraging me to love more, be kinder, be more helpful, even when life is hard.’”

Could there be any better words to hear?  I knew I was doing exactly what I should be doing with this blog. Because maybe you are me 5 years ago, and you need someone to show you a new perspective, just like someone showed me.

I’ve encountered a lot of same challenging experiences that you are. But I’ve also experienced deliverance in ways I never knew was possible.  My husband and I have learned how to be really, really happy & at peace no matter what our circumstances might be.  In sharing these perspectives with you, I hope this blog can be a great resource for anyone interested.  If I can be of inspiration to just one fellow woman, this effort will be worth it.

    1. You made tears well up in m eyes, Megan -- thank you for your words. I am nothing close to amazing. I'm so greatly flawed, and I fight the same battles you do. It's easy to give advice, yet it's hard to take it and use it. You guys encourage me and uplift me, and have been so hugely inspiring to me in my daily walk. Love to you!

    1. Thank you -- that's my hope...that I might live a Godly example by helping others, for it's not by self that got me to where I am in this life.

      Love to you!

    1. Lyndsay, I got chills reading your comment, for I know first hand what you describe...hard times that seem endless and lonely. My dad's infamous quote is "it's not how you handle the up's, it's about how you handle the down's." I try to focus on that, and the determinism I get from that often gets me through the day.

You are loved! And so appreciated. Thank you for reading here.

  12. Hi Mandi,

This is awesome! Blogging has such a powerful way to voice whatever it is we want to voice. I am so glad you chose this message to voice in blogging. There are many people out there who go to the internet looking for answers to their personal issues. For the most part, they end up on someone's blog reading stories that could be very similar to there's. They need to hear that in the end of whatever it is, everything will be ok. You've done that well and are very deserving of that awesome comment you've received :). Thank you so much for sharing this and of course stopping by my SHOW OFF Blog Party!
